Mr. Jalen Bryce Herndon

Mr. Jalen Herndon, 25, of San Antonio, Texas, entered into eternal rest on February 12, 2025. Jalen Bryce Herndon was born on January 11, 2000, in Killeen, Texas, at Darnall Army Medical Center to his lovingparents, Krystal Walker and James Herndon.Raised in South Carolina, Colorado, and Texas, Jalen graduated from Ronald Reagan High School before attending Prairie View A&M University, where he pursued a degree in Mechanical Engineering. After a year in college, he discovered his true passion and answered the call to serve his country by enlisting in the United States Army in March 2020. Jalen completed Basic Training with the 1st Battalion, 34th Infantry Regiment at Fort Jackson, South Carolina, and continued his training at Fort Gordon, Georgia, where he excelled as an Information Technology Specialist (MOS 25B) with DeltaCompany 551st Signal Battalion. In this role, he was responsible for installing, operating, maintaining, and troubleshootingcomputer systems and networks in military environments. His dedication and ambition led him to Fort Benning, Georgia,where he completed Airborne School, mastering the rigorous training required for military parachute operations. He was then stationed at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, home of the 82nd Airborne Division, where he served with the 307th Brigade Support Battalion, providing essential IT support for his unit. After four years of honorable service, Jalen completed his military career in March 2024, eager to continue his education and pursue a career in Information Systems. He was determined to build a future in the field he loved. Beyond his military service, Jalen was a devoted family member and a loyal friend. His infectious smile, generous spirit, and unwavering kindness touched the lives of everyone who knew him. His bravery extended far beyond the battlefield—he was always ready to lend a helping hand, share a laugh, or lift someone’s spirits when they needed it most. He had a passion for music, fast cars, good food, and competition—whether it was playing sports or video games with his siblings and dad. Jalen had big dreams and an even bigger heart. He was kind, intelligent, and full of ambition, always looking ahead to the next adventure. His faith was strong, and he never hesitated to receive a prayer, believing in the power of God’s presence in his life. Jalen’s unwavering dedication, kindness, and bright spirit touched the lives of many. Though his time with us was far too short, his legacy of love, laughter, and loyalty will live on in our hearts forever. Rest in peace, Jalen. Your memory will never be forgotten. He is survived by his father and step-mother, James (Maggie) Herndon; his mother, Krystal Walker Herndon; Jalen was a proud big brother in his blended family, cherishing his siblings, Zaniyah, Iyuna, Chancelor, Eric, Caiden, Irelyn, and Orien; he was also the beloved little brother to his favorite big sister, Kamryn; his maternal grandmother, Betty Williams; his paternal grandparents, Karon and Howard Holloway and a host of other relativesand friends. Funeral service will be 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, March 4, 2025 at A. A. Dicks Funeral Home, 6400 North Main Street, Columbia, South Carolina 29203. Reverend Aundreia Alexander, officiating.
