Mrs. Gladys D. Sheckleford

Mrs. Gladys D. Thompson Sheckelford was born December 27th, 1963, in West Palm Beach, Florida. She was the beloved daughter of the late Wade Thompson and Mildred Thompson. She departed this life on Tuesday June 7th, 2023, at the age of 59 in Columbia, South Carolina She was educated in Richland County Schools where she attended Hand Middle School and Dreher High School. Gladys was employed at Richland Memorial Hospital Fort Jackson (Johnson Food Services) for three years. Gladys was also a supervisor at Hardee’s Restaurant. As a long time, member of Saint John Baptist Church, God was first in her heart, and she dedicated some of her time to the church as a member. She was known to everyone as Gladys and welcomed both friends and strangers with a warm smile and kind words. Though she is no longer here with us physically, her beloved spirit and generosity of deeds will always be with us. Gladys will be greatly missed by her beloved family and friends. She was preceded in death by her son, Ricky Thompson; her siblings, Barbara A Glasgow, Mary L Hall, Audrey A. Furtick, and Wade Thompson Jr.; three grandsons, Chrishawn Thompson, Robert Guinyard, and Alex Hammond, and her children’s father, Roosevelt Medlock Jr. Those left to carry on Gladys legacy of love are her husband, Lester Sheckelford; her daughters, Nicole Thompson (Richard) Smith, Melissa Thompson (Rodney) Griffin, Crystal Thompson ( Brayden) Rowe and Courtney Thompson; her two stepchildren, Zion Sheckelford, and Sidney Washington; her sister, Felice "Ninny" Thompson, of Newberry, SC; 18 grandchildren; three great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and family members who will truly miss her. Funeral service will be 1:00 p.m., Thursday, June 15, 2023 at A. A. Dicks Funeral Home Sullivan Chapel, 6400 North Main Street, Columbia, South Carolina 29203. Reverend Alphonso Counts, Jr., officiating. Public viewing will be held from 1:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m., Wednesday, June 14, 2023 and from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service, Thursday, June 15, 2023 at the Funeral Home.
