Mrs. Ethel Rister

Mrs. Ethel Rister, 83, of Lexington, South Carolina entered into eternal rest on Thursday, April 17, 2025 at Lexington Medical Center Extended Care. Ethel was born on July 8, 1941, in Gable, South Carolina. She was the eighth of twelve children born to the late Milroy and Annie McFadden McCants. They also raised a granddaughter, Patricia Ann Jeffries. Ethel was converted to Christianity at an early age at Melina Presbyterian Church, Gable, South Carolina. Ethel was actively involved in Melina. Ethel grew up to be a warm and straight forward teenager. She attended and graduated with honors from Walker High School. She was one of their star basketball players. Ethel was a fashion diva and a very talented seamstress. The clothes she made would rival store-bought clothes. After high school, Ethel moved to Boston, Massachusetts and married Clarence Wimbush. To this union, two children were born, William Gerald and Tammy Anjanette. Tammy preceded her mother in death, February 15, 2025. Ethel worked for Cabot Corporation as an accountant during her time in Boston, Massachusetts. She moved to Charleston, South Carolina in 1974. She worked for WCSC Radio and Television Station in the accounting department. Ethel moved to Columbia, South Carolina in 1978. She worked and retired from SC Employment Security Commission as an accountant. Ethel later met and married Willie Rister of Lexington, South Carolina in 1985. She blended her family with his children, Tara, Patrick, and Raymond Rister. Shortly thereafter, Ethel joined Willie in his service with Jehovah Witness. Willie preceded her in death, April 2016. Ethel is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Willie Rister; a daughter, Tammy Anjanette; brothers, Walter McCants, John Berlin McCants, Willie McCants, and Jonathan McCants. Ethel leaves to cherish her memories her son, William Gerald (Debra Stuckey); granddaughter, Shayla (Treka), daughter-in-law, Vanessa Wimbush; sisters: Mary Simmons, Betty Goodman, Annie Wheeler, Jannie Isom, Carolyn Wheeler and Patricia Jeffries; brothers Thaddeus W. (Lizzie) McCants and Therin R. (Mary) McCants; and a host of loving nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m., Thursday, April 24, 2025 at A. A. Dicks Funeral Home Sullivan Chapel, 6400 North Main Street, Columbia, South Carolina 29203. Reverend Dr. Blakely Scott, officiating. Public viewing will be held from 12 noon until 6:00 p.m., Wednesday, April 23, 2025 and from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service, Thursday, April 24, 2025 at A. A. Dicks Funeral Home.
