Edith McKay, 62, died Friday, September 18, 2015. The family is receiving friends at 408 Providence Plantation Drive. Funeral Services will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, September 26, 2015 at Friendship Baptist Church, 1237 House Street. Interment to follow at the New Mt. Olive Baptist Church Cemetery in Gadsden, SC. Public Viewing is scheduled for Friday, September 25, 2015 from 10:00 AM - 7:00 PM at A. A. Dicks Funeral Home Sullivan Chapel. Mrs. Edith Devera Lee McKay was born on June 27, 1953 in Eastover, South Carolina to the late Deacon Ulysees and Evelyn Higgins Lee, Sr. She departed this earthly life on Friday, September 18, 2015 at the Palmetto Health Richland Memorial Hospital in Columbia, South Carolina. Our beloved Edith accepted Christ as her Savior at an early age at New Mount Olive Baptist Church (formally Mount Olive Baptist Church), Kingsville, South Carolina. After relocating to Maryland she became a member of Rainbow Family Christian Center in Silver Springs, Maryland, where she worked as the First Middle School Director and served on the Hospitality and Visitors Committees. As a child, Edith attended Webber School and graduated from Hopkins High School with the class of 1971. After graduation, she attended Midlands Technical College. Edith was a devoted mother, a loving sister and a loyal friend to all she met and knew. She was a hard worker and at the time of her untimely death, she worked for more than twenty-five years at Doctor's Community Hospital as a Unit Secretary. Prior to Doctor's Hospital, she worked at Baptist Children's Hospital and was the poll manager for the Voting Election Commission for Lanham, Maryland. Some of Edith's greatest joy were spending precious time with her family, reading her Bible, Zumba, listening to Gospel music, working at the church and being among friends. Left to cherish precious memories are: a son, Brandon (Danielle) McKay; a daughter, Ebony McKay all of Lanham, MD; six sisters, Julia Pringle, Barbara Bowdry, Eva Joe and Annie, Lula and Evelyn Lee; two brothers, James (Verna) Lee and Ulysees Lee, Jr.; a special cousin, reared like a sister, Johnnie (Alvin) McBeth; special friends, Janice Osborne, Delaine Shama, Cynthia Mewbourne and Mrs. Browning; a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, cousins, other loving relatives and friends who will miss her dearly.
